Mill Creek
Events

The Friends of Mill Creek host public events throughout the paddling season to showcase the recreational opportunities Mill Creek offers.  We also sponsor special educational activities for children.

Our planning meetings are open to everyone—no matter who you are, you’ll fit right in! Come join our friendly, eclectic crew!

SUNDAY FLOATS

Join us for our Monthly Floats, usually held from May to September, depending on water conditions! It’s a great chance to paddle the creek and get a ride back to your car.

Each month, we designate a section of the creek for the float, and from 4-6 PM, we’ll be at the take-out spot to shuttle you back. Plus, we’ll have hot dogs sizzling on the grill, so you can finish your paddle with a tasty, light dinner!

Our Floats for 2025 are scheduled:
May 18
June 8
July 13
August 10

TRY-A-TRI

Every year, we host a Try-A-Tri event to give kids their first taste of a triathlon! Elementary students from Jackson County are invited to Cedar Lakes for a fun, non-competitive foot race, bicycle race, and a mini kayaking course on the main lake. We make sure to refuel everyone with a meal and hand out participation medals. This year, 2025, we’re excited to add a competitive twist—stay tuned for more details!

FALL CLEAN UP DAY

When water levels permit, we host a fall creek clean-up day and invite local high school students to join us. They see firsthand how Mill Creek often ends up with everything from tires to grocery carts, all while enjoying a fun, muddy day out. We make sure to feed everyone, and by the end of the day, everyone leaves with a smile—and our creek is a little cleaner too!

ADVENTURE DAY/WATER FESTIVAL

Adventure Day is a fun-filled learning event for kids. Traditionally held on the courthouse lawn, it brings together state agencies—like the forestry division, environmental protection division, and department of natural resources—as well as local groups and organizations. Together, they offer hands-on experiences that explore the life of the creek and the water cycle.

Recently, this event has become an outdoor learning day for all Jackson County 5th grade elementary students.
